Essential baby wardrobe items

What clothes are a must-have for a baby's wardrobe? Do their materials matter? How to properly complete a layette? These are questions that future parents often ask themselves, wanting to prepare themselves as best as possible to welcome their first child into the world. There are several clothing essentials that form the basis of a layette for the hospital, and are also extremely useful in the first months of a baby's life.

Baby bodysuits – a basic element of a layette

In English, the word "body" means body, so it is easy to guess that this type of clothing is put directly on the child's skin, which is why it must meet a number of requirements regarding its performance, including the type of fabric from which it was sewn. Its main task is to wrap the child's body and also to support the diaper. An excellent solution is a baby bodysuit made of organic cotton, which will not lose its properties - shape and color - even after frequent washing. Parents can breathe a sigh of relief, because no harmful chemicals are used to produce clothes made of organic cotton, such as: pesticides, chemical fertilizers, toxic dyes, plant protection products or highly toxic formaldehyde. By choosing high-quality "bodysuits" - made of the best quality materials - you can be sure that the child's skin is well protected. It should be noted that organic cotton is harvested in a traditional way - by hand, and it is dyed only with natural dyes.

Advantages of organic cotton baby clothes:

  • they do not cause allergies and do not irritate the skin;
  • are delicate to the touch and soft;
  • they are airy, thus ensuring adequate thermal comfort.

Rompers, sleepsuits, or maybe baby rompers?

How is the above-mentioned children's clothing different? When it comes to a romper, it is a comfortable baby garment with long sleeves and legs, which is perfect for everyday wear and as a pajama. It is recommended to choose models that are fastened at the front along the entire length. Half-sleeves, on the other hand, are shorts with an elastic waistband and covered feet. They can be combined with a bodysuit or a baby caftan, i.e. a long-sleeved, unbuttoned T-shirt. Cotton rompers resemble rompers, but with one exception - they do not have sleeves and are fastened with snaps located on the straps.

Sleeping bags, hats and scarves - winter wardrobe for babies

As you know, every little one needs to go for walks to get some fresh air, even during the colder months of the year. Winter sleeping bags for babies are an excellent solution to protect the sensitive body of a child from hypothermia. They must be made of durable, waterproof, and windproof materials. In addition to a warm sleeping bag, you can't forget about other essential elements of winter clothing, such as a scarf or a warm, woolen hat for a child.

Some tips for future mothers on choosing children's clothes:

  1. Choose only hypoallergenic, durable children's clothes made of high-quality materials (e.g. organic cotton), with safety certificates (including GOTS, i.e. Global Organic Textile Standard) - they are available in our store!
  2. If the doctor predicts during the ultrasound examination that the estimated weight of your baby is about 4 kg, then when completing the layette, you can give up size 56 in favor of size 62.
  3. Avoid buying clothes with hoods, as they are uncomfortable for the baby in the first weeks of his life, as he spends most of his time lying down.
  4. Don't decide to buy clothes "for spare". Clothes that are too big won't work for everyday use, because the excess material will make it difficult to lift, change and care for your child.
  5. It is difficult to determine the optimal amount of clothes that should be purchased for a newborn at the beginning - a lot depends on the season in which the child is born (of course, in winter it is mandatory to buy jackets, sleeping bags and hats). Spring is coming soon, if you are approaching the due date, you should equip your child's wardrobe with, among others:
    • 6 pieces – short sleeve bodysuits,
    • 10 – long sleeve,
    • 6 pieces – half-sleepers,
    • 7 pieces – clowns.

Properly completing a layette is not one of the easiest tasks. It causes many difficulties for many future mothers. However, you need to remember about a few basic elements of the wardrobe, such as rompers or bodysuits, which will be useful for newborns and infants. The most important thing is their materials - you should choose those that are durable, pleasant to the touch and safe for the skin.
